Excavator case in Pennsylvania leaves family inside

excavator case – Erik Pierwsza, 48, is accused of using an excavator to partially demolish his Pennsylvania home while his wife and two children were inside. He faces multiple criminal charges, and authorities say no one was injured.
An argument in a quiet Pennsylvania home turned into something far more dangerous, according to court documents: police say Erik Pierwsza climbed into an excavator and began demolishing the house with his wife and two children inside.
Pierwsza. 48. of Buffalo Township. about 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. is facing three counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count each of causing a catastrophe and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from allegations reported by local outlets. with court records reviewed showing the case is still winding through the system.
Local media reported that Pierwsza allegedly destroyed part of the home using an excavator while his family members were inside. WTAE said his wife and two children were inside during the incident. WPXI reported that no one was injured.
The same reporting tied the alleged demolition to a confrontation inside the home. A criminal complaint covered by WTAE and WPXI says Pierwsza got into an argument and then threatened to tear down the house. He allegedly climbed into the excavator and started demolishing the home afterward.
Pierwsza is being held at Butler County Prison on $10,000 bond, according to the court documents. Court records also did not list representation for him and noted that he is not currently represented by a public defender.
The legal stakes are clear from the way the charges are framed: “recklessly endangering” counts suggest prosecutors believe the risk to others was immediate and extreme, even if the outcome—no injuries reported by WPXI—was not what the situation could have produced.
For now, the case remains set against a difficult question that lingers beyond the bond amount and the charges: how quickly an argument escalated into a scene where children were still inside the home, and an excavator was being used to bring parts of it down.
