When The Clam Box in East Brookfield closed its doors, it wasn’t tied to inventory or staffing—it followed the kind of accident that leaves a community quiet.
The restaurant temporarily shut down after one of its employees. Michael Earl. was killed in a crash just outside the business on Saturday afternoon. In a Facebook post Sunday. The Clam Box called Earl “the absolute perfect employee. friend and family guy. ” and said earlier postings would remain closed “until further notice” “due to the nature of the accident.”.
East Brookfield Fire Department officials said authorities were dispatched to West Main Street around 3:40 p.m. for a “very difficult call” that required a medical helicopter transport. East Brookfield police said accident reconstruction crews also responded to the scene of the “serious” motor vehicle crash.
In its message to customers, the restaurant identified Earl as the person who died. The Clam Box wrote that Earl was “an employee of several years,” and described him as someone who had “the whole world” ahead of him.
The restaurant shared a GoFundMe link seeking donations to help Earl’s mother with funeral costs and living expenses. “To his family we have no words that could ever express how [deeply] sorry we are for your loss. ” The Clam Box wrote. It added: “Yesterday is a day we all wish we could have back and alter the outcome. … Please give us time to do this correctly as we pray, grieve and remember Michael.”.
