Bed Bath & Beyond turns old coupons into $100,000 prize

Bed Bath & Beyond is asking shoppers to dig out old coupons for a nationwide 21-day “Legendary Coupon Hunt” that runs from June 22 to July 13, with a $100,000 home transformation as the grand prize.

At the start of summer, Bed Bath & Beyond is betting its most famous discount still has power — and it’s putting a scoreboard on it.

The retailer has launched its “Legendary Coupon Hunt,” a nationwide 21-day event that begins June 22 and runs through July 13. The company is asking customers to bring in any Bed Bath & Beyond coupon to participating stores, with the oldest surviving coupon treated as the hunt’s centerpiece.

Bed Bath & Beyond frames the contest around the iconic blue 20% off coupon. calling it more than a discount that became “part of American culture.” In its own telling. the coupon lived in everyday places — purses. filing cabinets. kitchen drawers. glove compartments. scrapbooks. and family memory boxes — because shoppers kept them for years. hoping they might need them later.

The contest also comes with a cash-and-prizes incentive. One winner will receive a $100,000 home transformation, described as the grand prize. Bed Bath & Beyond says customers can also win additional prizes: 100 winners will receive $500 gift cards, and 50 winners will receive $100 gift cards.

To enter, customers must bring any Bed Bath & Beyond coupon to participating Bed Bath & Beyond, Container Store, and Kirkland’s Home locations nationwide by July 13. The company says every coupon will be honored and that each coupon serves as an entry into the hunt.

The prize campaign lands on a broader retail shift already in motion. On June 18. Bed Bath & Beyond announced the rollout of 22 new “Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store” combination locations across the country. Those stores are designed to pair Bed Bath & Beyond’s bedding. bath. kitchen. entertaining. and home essentials with The Container Store’s organizational options. including custom spaces and in-home services.

The coupon hunt also arrives after a turbulent corporate chapter. The retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed its in-person stores in the year before. But its products remained available online after Overstock.com purchased the brand’s intellectual property. launching a new website and mobile app.

In 2025, Bed Bath & Beyond acquired The Brand House Collective, formerly Kirkland’s, and as part of the merger, some Kirkland’s locations became Bed Bath & Beyond stores.

Taken together. the company is using the same object — the old blue coupon shoppers kept in drawers and notebooks — to drive people back into physical locations and to connect those visits to its new store model. The question for customers is simpler than the corporate history: will they actually find that coupon. and whether it’s still worth more than nostalgia by the time they walk through the door.
