Apple shutters 3 stores June 20 amid mall decline

Apple shutters – Apple says it will close three retail locations on Saturday, June 20—at Trumbull Mall in Connecticut, North County Mall in California, and Towson Town Center in Maryland—pointing to worsening mall conditions and retailer departures, while outlining job-continu
The doors at Apple’s stores in three states won’t stay open for long. On Saturday, June 20, locations in Trumbull Mall in Connecticut, North County Mall in California and Towson Town Center in Maryland are scheduled to shut, according to each store’s webpage.
Apple framed the move as a response to changes around the malls that host the stores. In a statement, the company said the closures are tied to the departure of several retailers and declining conditions at those specific shopping centers.
Employees are not being cut loose in the same way everywhere. For the Trumbull and North County locations, Apple said the employees will continue their roles at nearby Apple stores. For Towson, the company said employees are eligible to apply for open roles at other locations under union agreements.
The mall changes didn’t happen in a vacuum, either. Apple pointed to the same two forces at each shuttered site: retailers leaving and conditions deteriorating at Trumbull Mall, North County Mall and Towson Town Center.
A tighter retail footprint across the country could be felt in the background, too. Apple lists store counts by state on its website. including California with 54 stores. New York with 23. Texas with 17 and Florida with 19. alongside smaller totals such as Delaware with one store and Alaska with one.
Taken together. the timing is specific and the reasons are consistent: three mall-based stores closing on the same date. with Apple tying the decisions directly to mall departures and a slide in mall conditions. The difference for workers in Connecticut and California is continuity at nearby stores; in Maryland. it becomes a job-search pathway through openings elsewhere.
For shoppers, the closures land squarely at the start of summer. For workers. the June 20 date sets a clear deadline—one that Apple says will be softened in Connecticut and California by continued roles nearby. and handled in Maryland through union-agreement eligibility to apply for other Apple positions.
