Hailee Steinfeld Marks First Anniversary With Josh Allen

Hailee Steinfeld shared a quiet first wedding anniversary with Josh Allen—complete with a home dinner, anniversary paper gifts, and watching their wedding video as their new family life continues to take shape.

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen didn’t make a production out of their first wedding anniversary. Instead, Steinfeld described a low-key evening that felt intimate enough to be measured in the details.

“This past weekend, Josh and I celebrated our first anniversary,” the actress wrote on Wednesday, June 3, via her Substack. The day included a simple routine: they both “dressed up. ” with Steinfeld noting she put on “a little mascara and a pair of jeans. ” then sat down for a 5pm dinner at their dining room table. Their baby girl was right there in a bouncy chair “in between us.”.

Steinfeld said the meal was built around their wedding-day comfort: “We had our wedding soup (tortilla). an incredible homemade mushroom pappardelle. and for dessert. a gooey butter cake.” She added that the cake is “our favorite thing to order when we’re out to dinner and find it on the menu.” After dinner. the couple rewatched their wedding video and revisited “our first-ever pictures together. ” talking through “our favorite dates and memories” and how much “life has changed in a year.”.

The anniversary also came with a specific kind of sentiment: Steinfeld explained that she and Allen “recently learned about the traditional anniversary gifts by year. and loved the idea.” She received a set of playing cards “with a photo from their wedding. ” and Allen surprised her with “framed photos to decorate our house.” Steinfeld called the gift the “best surprise. ” adding. “we’ve been putting off framing these photos for literally a year.”.

She then leaned into the symbolism of the first anniversary. “The first anniversary is paper, symbolizing a blank slate, new beginnings. So to celebrate, we gave each other small paper gifts,” she wrote. The couple also wrote each other special anniversary cards. and Steinfeld joked that it fit perfectly with her habits: “I’m constantly writing him notes (my love language).” Still. she said it felt important “to sit down and put pen to paper on our anniversary — especially given the paper theme.”.

For Steinfeld, anniversaries aren’t just dates on a calendar. She said they’re “a great excuse to sit down with your partner. check in. and ask each other reflective questions about the year — how it went. what you want to celebrate.” She described taking those moments for herself too. saying she’s “a big fan of taking a moment — be it a birthday. an anniversary. or a new year — to reflect on how much life can change in a relatively short amount of time.”.

She anchored that feeling in what her year has looked like. “On May 31st 2025. Josh and I were reading our vows in front of our closest friends and family. on what was. at that point. the best day of our lives. On May 31st 2026. we were sitting on the couch watching our wedding video with our daughter!” Steinfeld wrote that night she looked in the mirror and realized she was crying: “As we were getting ready for bed that night. I looked at my slightly glossy eyes in the mirror and realized I was crying happy tears.”.
