The Vegas Golden Knights are trying to turn Game 2 into the kind of night that flips a Stanley Cup Final series into control. They want that commanding 2-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes.
But the first period delivered a jolt that no team can plan for. Standout defenseman Brayden McNabb took a puck to the face on a shot from Nikolaj Ehlers. McNabb immediately left the ice and went into the Vegas locker room.
The early image told part of the story: McNabb covered his face right away. and it was hard to know exactly how bad the injury was from what could be seen. Even so. a puck right on the face from a slap shot is the kind of moment that keeps everyone on edge in real time—staff. teammates. and fans alike—because it could be serious.
Vegas will be without clarity as it evaluates McNabb’s condition. The team’s immediate focus is on getting a proper assessment after the high shot that sent him off during the opening frame. This story will be updated.

Geez that’s brutal. Face pucks are never good.
Wait so Ehlers did that on purpose? Like come on, a slap shot to the face is wild. I hope he’s okay but Vegas was trying to go up 2-0, now it’s chaos.
McNabb covered his face immediately so I’m guessing broken nose or concussion or something. But also like… what are the odds he was just being dramatic? Not saying that, I just don’t know. They say “hard to know how bad” which is basically code for we won’t know til later.
This is why I can’t watch hockey, it’s always somebody getting clocked in the face. Next thing you know they’re gonna say it’s not that serious and he’ll be back in like 5 minutes lol. Also why is NHL letting slap shots that close? Seems like safety theater to me.
