Trump Admits U.S. Shouldn’t Have Been in Iran

Trump admits – President Donald Trump told Lara Trump on Fox News that the U.S. “we’ve actually left” Iran’s military “alone,” and he also said, “We shouldn’t have been in Iran.” His comments came as he dismissed any “deal that’s good enough” and reportedly sent changes back

For Trump, the Iran story has never just been policy—it’s been certainty. But on Saturday night, in a wide-ranging interview with Lara Trump on Fox News, the president offered a strikingly different version of what the United States has done.

“We’ve actually left their military alone,” Trump said, explaining that the U.S. had not simply wiped Iran clean. He then described the outcome in sweeping terms that sounded like a reversal and a correction at the same time.

“Their Navy is totally gone, 100%,” Trump told Lara Trump on her show, “My View.” “Their Air Force is totally gone, 100%. Their military, we’ve sort of left it alone — because we think that their military is somewhat moderate. They have other people that aren’t moderate. We’ve taken them out. We’ve taking different forms of leadership out.”.

He added that people would be “surprised to hear that,” pointing to the idea that total destruction in war can backfire. “Because mistakes have been made in wars where you wipe out everybody and then you have a country that for 40 years can never rebuild,” Trump said.

What landed with particular force was that Trump’s comments arrived after he repeatedly told his supporters—most notably through Truth Social—that Iran had been “totally defeated.” In March. he wrote that the U.S. was “totally destroying the terrorist regime of Iran. militarily. economically. and otherwise.” He followed that post with a specific claim that Iran’s Navy. Air Force and air defenses had been annihilated. and he said “their leaders have been wiped from the face of the earth. ” insisting the U.S. had “unparalleled firepower, unlimited ammunition, and plenty of time.”.

On Saturday, Trump didn’t just recalibrate. He also walked straight into the question of whether the U.S. should have been in Iran at all.

During the interview, he told Lara Trump, “We shouldn’t have been in Iran.”

“Look at what happened with Iraq,” Trump said. “We did so bad, that was such a foolish thing, what we did. We shouldn’t have been there in the first place, by the way.”

“And we shouldn’t have been in Iran. But Iran has the capability — if we didn’t hit them with the B-2 bombers nine months ago, they would have a nuclear weapon right now, and it would be a whole different story,” Trump continued.

The president’s remarks came as Iran diplomacy has remained stuck in motion rather than resolution. The reporting included that on Friday Trump reportedly sent back changes to the proposed deal with Iran after a meeting with advisers, officials said—continuing negotiations into another week.

Trump also rejected the deal concept outright on the terms being discussed. “there’s no deal that’s good enough,” he said, according to the Friday reporting.

In that sense, the interview felt less like a single clarification and more like a defense of a position that keeps shifting under pressure—military claims tightening and loosening, and the question of U.S. involvement in Iran swinging from triumph to regret in the span of a single broadcast.

  1. I don’t get it, like didn’t he say Iran was totally defeated? Now suddenly “we left it alone.” Sounds like spin to me. Also who cares what he said on Fox, show me facts.

  2. “Their Navy is totally gone, 100%” is what I heard. But then he says we left their military alone so… which one is it? Feels like they’re just changing the story depending on the day. And the whole “they can’t rebuild for 40 years” part sounds like a guess.

  3. This is wild because my neighbor said Iran got flattened like instantly, like we wiped it out. Then I read this and it’s like “we took out different forms of leadership”??? That doesn’t even mean the same thing. Trump talks in circles and somehow everybody acts like it’s normal. If we “left it alone” then why are we talking about taking out stuff at all?
