Williams leads Lynx past Mercury 111-77, again

Courtney Williams scored a season-high 30 points on Monday as the Minnesota Lynx routed the Phoenix Mercury 111-77 at Mortgage Matchup Center, pushing the franchise to a fifth straight win while Minnesota improved to 7-2 and Phoenix slid to 2-8.
Courtney Williams didn’t just start hot—she set the tempo early, and the Minnesota Lynx never let the Phoenix Mercury catch up.
At Mortgage Matchup Center on Monday. Minnesota ripped through the opening minutes with a 35-22 first-quarter advantage and went on to cruise to a 111-77 win. The result marked the Lynx’s fifth straight victory and kept them moving forward with confidence as the Mercury suffered their sixth straight loss.
Minnesota improved to 7-2. Phoenix fell to 2-8.
The separation began in the first half. Minnesota scored 67 points in the first half—credited as the third-most in any half by a road team in league history. Williams was a big reason why, shooting 8-of-10 in that opening stretch for 19 points.
She finished with a season-high 30 points, converting 13-of-20 overall. Williams also went 3-of-3 from the three-point line, adding five rebounds and two assists. Her performance stood out even more because she was carrying a larger share of the load for Minnesota.
Alongside Williams, Olivia Miles helped keep the pressure steady. Miles, 23, posted 19 points, four rebounds, nine assists, and three steals. Off the bench, Anastasiia Olairi Kosu added 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
The Lynx’s scoring burst also came while Napheesa Collier remained sidelined. Collier is still recovering from her ankle surgery and is expected to suit up this month. Without her, Williams has been one of the key stabilizers for Minnesota.
Ahead of the season. Williams had already spoken about what it would require to step up without Collier. who had been a runner-up in the MVP race for the past two years. In a report from The IX Sports’ Terry Hortsman, Williams said: “I feel good about it. We had to play without Phee last year. so you know. we’re going to hold it down until she comes back.”.
Those words looked practical on Monday night. With Collier still out, Williams entered the game averaging a career-high 17.8 points on top of 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals in her third year in Minnesota.
For Minnesota, the win didn’t just extend a streak—it reaffirmed their position at the top of the Western Conference, where they’ve held down the fort even with Collier still not in uniform.
