SEC Baseball Tournament rain delays Florida-Georgia semifinal

SEC Baseball – A rain delay in Hoover, Alabama pushed the Florida-Georgia semifinal into the seventh inning stoppage, with the Gators leading 7-4 when play paused. The SEC said it would provide updates as the game resumed.
The rain didn’t just slow the action at the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama—it stopped it.
On Saturday, May 23, Florida and Georgia’s semifinal game was paused in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain. At the time play stopped, the Gators led 7-4. Georgia had a runner on first with one out.
The SEC said it would announce updates as it has them when the game resumes, but for now there’s no timeline for restart.
In the broader scramble of weather interruptions, the tournament has already been reshaped by Mother Nature. Texas and Arkansas’ quarterfinal game was pushed back on May 22 due to inclement weather. Georgia’s opening game of the SEC Tournament against Mississippi State on May 21 was also affected.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey took to X to describe the conditions at The Hoover Met, writing: “Suboptimal environmental conditions here at The Hoover Met for (SEC Baseball Tournament) with Purple Rain playing over the PA and real rain falling from the sky!”
The forecast offers a narrow window of hope, but it isn’t a guarantee. According to Weather.com’s hourly outlook, rain is projected to stop in Hoover starting at 5 p.m. ET. The weather is expected to stay clear until 8 p.m. ET, when thundershowers are forecast with a 100% chance of precipitation. Weather.com projected 0.42 inches of rainfall at 8 p.m. ET.
Even as the game sits in limbo, one fact is clear: the delay comes after Florida built a lead, and the next minutes could decide whether that advantage holds—or whether the Bulldogs can turn the pause into momentum.
