Annapolis cheer academy owner Dustin Moss Burket was taken into custody Wednesday, and within hours Maryland State Police moved to lay out a criminal case tied to a young child under his supervision.
Burket. 52. of Annapolis. was charged with second-degree rape. abuse of a minor. and assault after police said he sexually abused a 9-year-old child last year. State police said the incident happened last summer on the property of the Eastern Shore Cheer Academy in Stevensville. in Queen Anne’s County. The child was under Burket’s supervision at the time.
Maryland State Police said investigators launched an inquiry into Burket last April. After reviewing evidence gathered during that investigation, a grand jury convened by the Queen Anne’s County State Attorney’s Office indicted Burket.
Since his arrest Wednesday, Burket has been held at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center without bond.
