For travelers heading into July 2026, the first change may be visible on signs—and the second will show up when airline reservations start asking for a new code.

Palm Beach International Airport will be officially renamed for President Donald J. Trump International Airport in July 2026, after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Monday, March 30, to rename the airport. The airport’s International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is scheduled to change from PBI to DJT later this summer. with the code update set for Aug. 18.

The airport operator says the renaming follows a Florida law passed in March that requires the airport name to be updated. An FAQ on the airport’s website says final approval of the change is expected to come from the Federal Aviation Administration on July 9. but that the update could take longer for “signage and other information” to be refreshed.

The FAQ also lays out how the transition will be handled: “Although the required name change will become effective July 9. 2026. transition activities. including updates to signage. branding and public‑facing materials. will occur in phases. ” it says. “Airport operations and services will continue without interruption.”.

As the rename takes effect, passengers will need to use the new code when booking. The FAQ says that after the IATA code changes. passengers “should use DJT to search for the airport when making airline reservations.” It also explains that the new IATA code will be reflected in airline reservation systems. ticketing. baggage tags. and related industry platforms once the change takes effect.

The airport’s operator says the FAA and International Civil Aviation Organization will also update their identifier codes to DJT.

The controversy around the rename has been part of the story since the law passed in March. Shortly after the Florida law was enacted, the president moved to trademark the phrase “Donald J. Trump International Airport” and the DJT identifier code. That trademark action meant Palm Beach County had to enter into a licensing agreement to use the legally required new name.

In its FAQ. the airport acknowledges the divide in how passengers may react to the change. then tries to draw a line back to routine. “While we recognize that the required name change may be received in different ways by our passengers. we’re grateful for your continued support through this transition period. We remain committed to serving all passengers and ensuring a positive travel experience,” the FAQ says. “While some things may evolve over time. our core focus remains the same: providing a safe. reliable and welcoming airport experience.”.

At the same time, the practical calendar is narrowing. The name change is set to take effect on July 9, 2026, after expected FAA approval, while the DJT code update is slated for Aug. 18.

The sequence is simple on paper: July for the official name, August for the identifier that drives bookings and baggage tags. For passengers, the experience will hinge on how quickly those changes appear in the real world—sign-by-sign—after the legal and aviation approvals land.
