Newsom dares Trump as DOJ investigation targets him

Newsom dares – California Gov. Gavin Newsom escalated his feud with President Donald Trump by daring him to “go after” him as the Department of Justice opened an investigation into Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Newsom said the inquiry is part of Trump’s effort

For Gavin Newsom, the fight with Donald Trump isn’t staying behind closed doors.

On Monday. the California governor posted that Trump had directed the Justice Department to investigate him and his wife. Jennifer Siebel Newsom—then challenged the president to “go after” him anyway. “Today, my wife & I joined Donald Trump’s hit list,” Newsom wrote on X. He added that “they have not found a crime” and described the inquiry as an attempt “to simply find one.”.

Newsom framed the investigation as political retaliation. saying. “He isn’t coming after me because of mean tweets. but because I am considering running for President.” He called Trump “the most corrupt President in American history. ” said. “We have nothing to hide. ” and ended with a direct demand: “Mr. President, come after me. I am not going anywhere. The country is watching.”.

Shortly after. he reinforced the challenge publicly while speaking to MS Now reporter Jacob Soboroff at the opening of former President Barack Obama’s Presidential Center in Chicago. Asked about the probe. Newsom replied that the behavior was familiar. saying. “This is stuff that happens in other countries. ” and then went back to the simplest version of his message: “He wants to go after me?. Go after me.”.

When Soboroff asked Jennifer Siebel Newsom for her comments, she didn’t engage the investigation. Instead, she pivoted to the event around her, saying, “I’m just so grateful for this inspiration and leadership,” and gesturing to her surroundings as she added, “We need more of this!”

The latest exchange lands amid a wider, ongoing clash between Newsom and Trump. Newsom has vowed to impose a 100 percent tax on any money California residents might receive from the “anti-weaponization” fund announced by Trump’s DOJ last month. “Anyone from California that receives any of those funds. we wanna tax 100 percent of those proceeds. ” Newsom said in a video posted to social media. adding. “And that’s an action the state of California can take. It’s an action we look forward to taking.”.

The fight between the two men has long been personal and nonstop. This time, Newsom’s dare—delivered first on X and then again in Chicago—turns a DOJ investigation into a test of who will blink first, and who will claim the country’s attention first when power meets allegations.

  1. Newsom really said “go after me” like he’s daring a bully?? Meanwhile DOJ is doing actual investigating smh.

  2. Is this the same DOJ that helped Trump with stuff before? Feels like it’s all just politics and not law. If they “haven’t found a crime” then why investigate at all.

  3. Wait I thought Newsom was supposed to be done with Trump after the last election… but now he’s like “come after me”?? Jennifer not answering sounds sus to me but I might be mixing it up with another case.

  4. A 100% tax on “anti-weaponization” money sounds like a headline that writes itself lol. Also going after Newsom because “considering running for President” like come on, that’s obviously the real motive right? DOJ investigations are always selective though, so who knows.
