New residential complex for IDPs in Zugdidi

Construction is underway in Zugdidi for a large-scale housing project designed to provide modern homes to over 1,700 displaced families by 2027.

A massive construction project is transforming the landscape in Zugdidi as the government pushes forward with a new residential complex for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The site is currently buzzing with activity to ensure that over 1,700 families receive modern, move-in-ready apartments.

Work is focused on seven high-standard buildings that aim to address long-standing housing needs in the region. The project, valued at over 191 million GEL, is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2027.

Beyond the apartments themselves, the development plan places a strong emphasis on community living. The surroundings will feature full infrastructure, including outdoor sports fields, playgrounds for children, and dedicated fitness areas for residents.

This development represents a significant step toward stabilizing the living conditions of thousands who were forced to leave their homes, ensuring they have not just a roof over their heads, but access to functional public spaces.

Officials, including Deputy Minister of Health Giorgi Tsagareishvili and the Director of the IDP Agency, David Kaikatsishvili, recently visited the site to inspect the progress. Their presence underscores the importance of maintaining strict oversight as the project nears its multi-year goals.

The initiative is part of a broader national strategy to tackle housing shortages for displaced families across the country. Similar construction efforts are running simultaneously in Tbilisi, Rustavi, and Borjomi.

Misryoum reports that the integrated approach—combining residential units with recreational facilities—reflects a shift in how the state manages long-term support for displaced citizens.

Ultimately, by centralizing these services and creating self-sustaining neighborhoods, the state hopes to ease the social integration process for families who have spent years waiting for permanent housing solutions.
