Saturday’s signing day brought a clear message to the Toronto Sceptres: experience matters, especially around the players who know what it takes to win on the biggest stages. The team agreed to a two-year Professional Women’s Hockey League contract with veteran forward Jamie Lee Rattray.
Rattray’s path to Toronto runs through Boston. She spent three seasons with the Boston Fleet, and last season she produced 12 points in 30 games. At 33 years old, she brings more than league know-how. She won Olympic gold with Canada at the 2022 Beijing Games and has been a seven-time medallist at the world championships.
There is also a personal pull to this deal. Rattray returns to the Toronto area after playing five seasons with the Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s Brampton/Markham Thunder before the PWHL’s inception.
The rest of the league’s offseason business moved in parallel. The Ottawa Charge signed forward Dara Greig to a two-year contract. Greig won the Walter Cup with the Montreal Victoire last season, and she is the sister of Ottawa Senators forward Ridley Greig.
Montreal’s updates came with continuity, too. The Victoire announced they have re-signed Quebec-born forwards Jade Downie-Landry and Alexandra Labelle. Downie-Landry returns on a two-year deal, while Labelle is signed through next season.
Further west. PWHL Hamilton—one of four expansion teams set to debut next season—made its own statement by adding forward Peyton Hemp on a one-year contract. Hemp played for Ottawa last season. giving Hamilton early familiarity with a player who’s already adjusted to the pace and demands of the league.
