Marginal MediaWorks finishes indie horror “Last Day”

Marginal MediaWorks has wrapped production on the Southern indie horror “Last Day,” written and directed by Kevin Arbouet. Shot on location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the film stars Tanyell Quian and Ellis Hobbs IV and will remain tight-lipped on its exact log

Marginal MediaWorks didn’t waste time once the cameras started rolling—now, the company has wrapped production on its Southern indie horror “Last Day,” with writer and director Kevin Arbouet behind the story.

The film was shot on location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. “Last Day” is described as a high-concept horror that unfolds over one night inside an apartment building in the deep south. Exact logline and plot details are being kept under wraps.

At the center of the cast is Tanyell Quian. known from “Queen Sugar. ” “Nickel Boys. ” and “Ma. ” playing a single mother who will do anything to protect her son. Ellis Hobbs IV—recognized for “The Deliverance” and “The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster”—plays the son. Brandon Gilpin, from “P Valley,” and Royce Johnson, from “Daredevil” and “The Punisher,” also star.

Producers on “Last Day” are Sanjay M. Sharma, who founded Marginal, and Milan Chakraborty.

Arbouet, meanwhile, brings a track record that ranges from adaptation to franchise-adjacent genre work. He’s best known for helming “Benji the Dove. ” adapted from the acclaimed Icelandic novel. and he also directed the Fox Studios production “Gridiron Grind. ” which was selected as one of IMDb’s 2023 top picks.

Marginal’s pace hasn’t slowed as “Last Day” comes to a close. The company’s recent film slate includes “Cypher,” which won the Jury Prize at Tribeca, and “She Taught Love,” which won the AAFCA’s Best Indie Feature award.

The momentum is also visible in Marginal’s other horror corner of the slate: the LGBTQ+ Canadian indie horror “Camp. ” from writer/director Avalon Fast. was named Best Picture at Fantastic Fest 2025 as part of its New Voices category. “Camp” is slated to screen at Frameline50 in San Francisco in June. and it will debut theatrically via Dark Sky on June 26.

Next up, Marginal is gearing up for productions on two additional features slated to shoot in 2026—one described as a horror film and the other as an international musical. The company is also in post-production on its next documentary feature.
