By the time officers arrived at about 10 a.m., the initial fight inside the Dorchester Division of the Boston Municipal Court was already over.
But order still had to be restored.
Police said the incident took place on the second floor at 510 Washington St. Officers were required to separate the parties involved and moved five men to a holding area. While they were waiting to be transported. a second altercation broke out. according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
During the disruption, a handcuffed suspect kicked another individual and then attempted to spit on him. The spit missed and instead struck an officer, police said.
Authorities identified four adults arrested as 19-year-olds Syncere Johnson, Shamar Passley-Clark, and Terrel Stokes, all of Dorchester, along with 20-year-old Damontay Brown, of Boston. A 17-year-old male from Dorchester was also arrested, though his name was withheld due to age.
All five suspects have been charged with affray and disrupting court proceedings.
The 17-year-old faces additional charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a police officer, police said.
At an arraignment on Wednesday at BMC Dorchester, Brown, Passley-Clark, and Stokes entered pleas of not guilty. They are currently being held on $1,000 bail, according to court records. Johnson’s arraignment was pushed to Thursday, and the court has yet to disclose the outcome.
