Collin Gosselin is breaking his silence in ink—and he picked a date to make sure the world shows up.

The 22-year-old announced on Instagram that his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, will debut on October 13, 2026. Alongside the announcement, he shared what pushed him to finally go public and why he kept quiet for so long.

“For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story,” Collin wrote in the caption that accompanied an image of the book cover. The cover features a candid photo of him as a child, walking alongside his mother, Kate Gosselin, as she covers his mouth with her hand.

“Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw,” he continued.

The silence wasn’t simple reluctance. Collin said it took years to work through the fear and uncertainty that kept him from sharing his experiences sooner. “For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready,” he wrote.

He said the book forces him to revisit some of his most painful memories. but that the act of writing helped him find a kind of closure. “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life. but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. ” Collin wrote. “This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”.

Collin is one of the eight children Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin share. The others are 25-year-old twins Cara and Mady, plus 22-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah and Joel.

His memoir arrives after years of his own public comments about his upbringing—especially his difficult relationship with Kate and his account that he grew up largely separated from his siblings. Collin has linked those issues to his parents’ 2009 divorce, when Kate was granted custody of all eight children.

In 2016, Kate sent Collin to a behavioral health institution, later saying his “unpredictable and violent behavior” led to the decision.

Since leaving the show, his life has moved in clearer milestones. Collin left Jon & Kate Plus 8 in 2018 and moved in with Jon, who had been awarded custody of him. Five years later, he graduated high school alongside his sister Hannah.

He has also spoken about the long-term effects of growing up on television—how it shaped his relationship with his siblings. In a 2025 social media post, Collin said he felt “forced apart” from them over the years and reflected on what their lives “could’ve looked like” if they had stayed closer.

The memoir’s release date—October 13, 2026—now sets the stage for the story he says fans never got to see, not just as an add-on to the show, but as his own account of what it cost him to keep quiet for so long.

  1. Kate Gosselin covering his mouth in the picture… man. That’s heartbreaking. Hopefully people actually read it instead of just gossiping for 2 seconds.

  2. I don’t get it, didn’t he already say everything like years ago? Also the title says “eight” but his mom had more than eight kids right? Sounds like they’re just milking the drama and picking a date for sales.

  3. October 13 2026 like that matters?? I feel bad for him, but I also feel like publishing is gonna bring the same crazies back. People already acted like they knew him because of the show, so now they’re gonna be worse about judging. Idk, I’m skeptical, but I’m also not gonna pretend it’s not a big deal to finally speak up.
