Deion Sanders shifts after Myles Garrett trade
Deion Sanders mocked the idea of the Browns trading Myles Garrett last month, calling him a “once in a lifetime” winner. Now that the trade has happened, Sanders says he’s happy with Andrew Berry’s decision and won’t question the direction of the move.
Last month, Deion Sanders was blunt about Myles Garrett — not just in opinion, but in the kind of language that leaves little room for negotiation.
Speaking to Garrett Bush before the trade, Sanders rejected the idea of the Browns moving defensive end Myles Garrett. “They got a killer on defense. I’m tired of y’all talking about trading him and getting rid of him. ” he said. “That don’t make no sense to me. That’s a once in a lifetime man. That’s a once in a lifetime man that you don’t see no more. I don’t get rid of that. Unless I could get your mama, daddy, your uncle, cousins, and everybody in a trade for that. Because that’s a grown man. That’s a winner. That’s a winner.”.
The trade has since happened, and Sanders’ tone has changed with it.
Recently, as part of a media tour for Deion’s Depend partnership, Sanders told D.J. Saddiqi of Covers.com that he’s backing the choice now that he’s not in the room making personnel decisions. “I’m happy with Mr. [Andrew] Berry. the G.M. and what he’s doing. I’m not going to question his direction of what he’s bringing to the table. ” Sanders said. “I’m not there, so I don’t know all the intangibles that provoked that trade. I’m happy with what they got, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.”.
The comparison Sanders was using in his earlier remarks—naming “your mama, daddy, your uncle, cousins, and everybody” as what it would take—now appears to have a clear new shorthand. Deion considers Jared Verse plus a first-, second-, and third-round pick to be an equivalent package.
So for Sanders, the question isn’t whether the Browns traded a “once in a lifetime” defensive force. It’s whether the return matched the yardstick he laid out before the deal ever went through.

Once in a lifetime my foot, football moves like that every year anyway.
So Deion was talking crazy last month then suddenly it’s all good? Sounds like he just wanted clicks or something. If it works, great, if not then he’ll act like he always knew.
I don’t even think Deion understands trades half the time. Like he said “get your mama, daddy” etc… so he’s basically saying the Browns traded family?? lol. Also how is Jared Verse even close to Garrett, that’s wild.
Deion backing Andrew Berry now because he’s not in the room… okay but I thought he was like some genius football mind. Meanwhile Browns always “wait and see” and then everyone’s mad in November. Jared Verse + picks should be good though right? unless they’re lying about the intangibles.
