Wanderlust Ghana’s Road to the World Cup Journey from Accra to Toronto

Wanderlust Ghana begins an overland and transoceanic trip from Accra to Toronto, aiming to support the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

A bold overland and transoceanic drive is underway, with Wanderlust Ghana setting off from Accra on a journey that links continents and a World Cup dream.

The 2026 expedition is described as a historic first by Ghanaians, taking the team from Africa across Europe and into North America. The route is expected to pass through about 12 countries before reaching Toronto, Canada.

The focus is not limited to travel. For Wanderlust Ghana, the Accra-to-Toronto push is also meant to rally momentum for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 11.

In this context, road trips become more than logistics. They also serve as public signals of pride and visibility, turning long-distance travel into a running conversation with the wider world.

Team Lead Kwabena Peprah has framed the expedition as more than a typical road trip, saying the aim is to put Ghana on a global map. The drive, he indicated, is about representation as much as it is about distance.

Wanderlust Ghana is not starting from scratch. The group previously drew international attention after an overland trip from Accra to London, and the new initiative is being positioned as a continuation of that outward-looking approach.

Meanwhile, local support is a key part of the plan. Two Ghanaian companies, Star Oil and SIC Insurance PLC, have backed the expedition, with Star Oil providing fuel and SIC Insurance offering comprehensive coverage for the team and their vehicles.

This matters because large travel plans often hinge on risk management as much as on ambition. With coverage in place and fuel support secured, the effort can stay focused on the long journey ahead.

SIC Insurance’s Managing Director, James Agyenim-Boateng, described the partnership as support for aspirations, not just assets, adding that the company is proud to help carry Ghana’s flag across continents.

The expedition has been branded as a symbolic “road to the World Cup,” and the team is expected to arrive in North America in time to support the Black Stars during the tournament.

At a time when sports moments can unite communities, an expedition like this also functions as a moving platform for national identity. If it lands in Toronto as planned, it may well become part of the broader build-up to the World Cup story for many fans.
