Valter Sedin added to Canada U20 squad

Valter Sedin, 19, has been named to Canada’s 24-player U20 roster for the Maurice Revello Tournament in France from May 31 to June 14. The forward, born in Vancouver and developed through the Vancouver Whitecaps system, will join Canada’s group matches against
When the Sedin family looks at what’s next, the answer now is written in a tournament schedule. Valter Sedin—19 and Henrik Sedin’s son—has been named to Canada’s U20 roster for a major spring test in France.
The announcement lands in the middle of an unusually busy month for the family. Earlier this month, Henrik and Daniel Sedin were tabbed as co-presidents for the Canucks. Now, Valter’s own path takes another step forward.
Born in Vancouver in 2007, Valter Sedin currently plays soccer for a U19 team in Sweden. His development includes five years in the Vancouver Whitecaps system, tying his international opportunity back to home. Last August, he was previously selected to Canada’s U18 roster.
This time, he’s in Canada’s 24-player squad for the Maurice Revello Tournament in France. The competition runs from May 31 to June 14, serving as a tune-up for the Concacaf U20 championship later in the summer.
Head coach Andrew Olivieri framed the tournament as a chance to measure progress under pressure. “Participating in the Maurice Revello Tournament is an outstanding opportunity for this group to continue their development against some of the best youth national teams in the world. We’re excited to test ourselves in a highly competitive environment as we continue preparing for the Concacaf U-20 Championship this summer. ” Olivieri said in a press release.
Canada’s group stage schedule sets up a tough start. The team will face Venezuela, Portugal, the Ivory Coast, and Japan in group play—games that will show how this roster handles different styles as summer preparation begins to harden into something more final.

Sedin name alone is basically a guarantee lol
Wait so he’s in Sweden now? I thought the Sedins were all hockey related so soccer just got added to the family resume I guess. Also Portugal, Japan, like what even is the group play schedule.
Henrik and Daniel as co-presidents for the Canucks too… so like is Valter gonna be co-president of Canada youth soccer or something? Not sure how the tournament part works, but congrats anyway. I always assume the Whitecaps system means he’ll be in MLS next year.
France tournament May 31 to June 14, cool, but can someone explain why it’s “for Concacaf U20” if it’s in Europe? Sounds like one of those things where they say it’s a tune-up but it’s really just for hype. Also Venezuela + Ivory Coast teams? That’s gonna be brutal, poor kid.
