On May 21, Texans looking toward a new family destination may be waiting just a little longer than they want to be. Universal’s Universal Kids Resort website is building anticipation, but it still won’t commit to a specific opening day.
The property—located just north of Dallas—has been described as a smaller-scale resort built around a regional theme park and an indoor playground called Ocean Odyssey at Texas State Aquarium is also drawing attention in the same Texas region. The website’s FAQ spells out the timing gap in plain terms. It reads: “an official grand opening date will be revealed in the months ahead.” The message is fueling speculation online about when families might finally plan their first trip, but Universal has left the calendar blank.
A request for an update on when the park will open was made to Universal Destinations and Experiences, but no response had been received at the time of the inquiry.
What Universal has said, so far, is focused on what guests will find when the resort does open. Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative, tied the design choices to a child-centered experience. “When creating Universal Kids Resort, we leaned into that childlike curiosity and invited play to be our guide,” Murphy said. “Every detail was designed through a child’s eyes, from signs at their height to colors that invite them in.”.
Universal also directs families toward updates through a sign-up option for email notifications. The site says that joining will help people stay up to date on announcements, be among the first to know when tickets go on sale, and receive a free, printable activity book ahead of the park’s opening.
There’s a clear tension running through the rollout: the resort’s opening year is pinned down to 2026. but the exact date remains deliberately out of reach. Families can plan for the year. but the “months ahead” phrasing leaves plenty of room for guessing—until Universal decides it’s ready to put a day on the calendar.

Kinda annoying they won’t say a date. Like just pick a month. My kids are gonna grow out of it by the time they “reveal it in the months ahead.”
Wait is this the same thing as the aquarium place? Cuz I heard “Ocean Odyssey” was already open or something, so I’m confused. If the indoor playground is there already, why can’t they just open the hotel too? Sounds like delays or they’re hiding the real reason.
