Kimmel recalls Trump’s Jumbotron moment at Knicks

Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday mocked President Donald Trump for the very rowdy reception he received from Knicks fans while attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday. “The team didn’t want this,” Kimmel pointed out. “So they were smart. They tried something clever: They showed him on the Jumbotron during the national anthem when it’s frowned upon to boo.” Indeed, that’s the precise moment Trump was featured on the massive screen above the court. But, as Kimmel noted: “That strategy
did not work at all.” The crowd jeered and booed the president as he stood and saluted during the anthem. “They say that was the loudest the president has been booed at a sporting event since Abe Lincoln flipped the coin at the Cotton Bowl,” Kimmel cracked. Yet, what happened next really caught Kimmel’s attention. “It was nap time,” Kimmel said over footage of the president seemingly dozing off during the game. Trump, he said, “spent who knows how many millions of taxpayer dollars to
get there, and he goes out like a light.” Kimmel was stunned that anyone could nod off during such a pivotal event. “Who can fall asleep during the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden?” he asked. “Do you know how out of it you have to be?” Kimmel also reminded viewers that Trump used to attack former President Joe Biden, calling him “Sleepy Joe” for his lack of energy. “I hope Joe Biden was watching this and laughing his ass off last night,” Kimmel said.
The Knicks had been on a historic 13-game winning streak until the president turned up, Kimmel noted. “Basically, he did to the Knicks last night what he’s gonna do to Republicans in Congress come November,” Kimmel said. “He hit ’em with a jinx.” See more in his Tuesday night monologue
Jimmy Kimmel, Donald Trump, Knicks, NBA Finals, Madison Square Garden, Jumbotron, national anthem, boos, Joe Biden, Sleepy Joe
Kimmel really needed to add the Abe Lincoln thing huh
Wait so they put Trump on the jumbotron during the anthem to STOP people from booing? That seems kinda messed up and it backfired lol
Idk if he was actually asleep or just blinking, but the whole “Sleepy Joe” comparison is weird because like… everyone’s gonna nap at some point? Knicks losing streak maybe cause the jumbotron? That’s what I heard somewhere
Madison Square Garden is not “nap time” energy, that’s for sure. If taxpayer money went to watch a game and he’s dozing, that’s just embarrassing. Also the Republicans in Congress part is probably what they’ll run with, like some kind of jinx narrative. People act like this is just comedy but it’s lowkey political bait
