Chiefs explore trade for Morris after injury comeback

The message from Wanya Morris wasn’t subtle: after three seasons in Kansas City, he wants out. Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking at ways to make that possible, exploring trade options for tackle Morris as he seeks a fresh start and more playing time elsewhere.
Morris is 25 and is coming off a turbulent stretch that included a season-ending knee injury. He suffered that injury against the Houston Texans in December. when his season was cut short on the first play of the loss. The Chiefs put him on injured reserve that month. and he is now healthy again—participating in Kansas City’s organized team activities.
The timing is complicated for both sides. Morris is also entering the final year of his four-year, $5,368,357 rookie contract. And the Chiefs have another chessboard piece ready at tackle: they believe they have solid depth with Josh Simmons and Jaylon Moore projected to be starters. along with former undrafted free agent Esa Pole. Ethan Driskell. and Chukwuebuka “Jason” Godrick listed on the roster.
Morris’s path to a trade has been shaped by what has happened on the field. Selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he has made 43 regular-season appearances for the Chiefs. He recorded 16 starts in those games, with 11 starts coming during the 2024 season when Kansas City reached the Super Bowl. But just before the postseason, Morris was moved out of the Chiefs’ first-team group.
Last season offered only a single start—against the Houston Texans. It didn’t last. His lone start ended quickly when he was injured on the first play of the loss, ending his season again before it could fully get going.
For the Chiefs. allowing Morris to leave ahead of the 2026 season would open the door to something they can’t guarantee in-house: draft capital. Cashing in on value is the practical angle. For Morris. the incentive is more personal—an opportunity to impress elsewhere. increase his role. and position himself well ahead of free agency.
Right now, the Chiefs’ focus is on whether the market will match their willingness to move. Morris is healthy and back working with the team, but the direction of travel has already shifted—toward an escape from Kansas City, and a new chapter built around more time on the field.

If he’s healthy now then why not just play him more. Seems like BS.
I don’t get it. He got hurt first play vs the Texans and now they’re trading him? Maybe the Chiefs just don’t want to pay him later anyway.
So he requested a move because of playing time… but he had 11 starts in 2024 right? Then they moved him out of the first-team group before the postseason. Sounds like either he fell off or the coaches hate him for some reason. Also “healthy again” is doing a lot of work here.
Chiefs always trade people right before they peak like it’s a movie. Wanya Morris asked out, then they’re like ok we’ll explore options, but also he’s on injured reserve?? idk it’s confusing. If he was the starter why wasn’t he the starter again after the knee thing. Feels like they just want more draft picks and money.
