Tom’s of Maine settlement claim deadline hits July 6

If you bought Tom’s of Maine toothpaste in the U.S. between Nov. 21, 2020, and March 6, 2026, July 6 is the last day to file a claim in a class action settlement involving Colgate-Palmolive. A final approval hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.

By the morning of July 6, the clock will be running out for people who believe they were caught up in a Tom’s of Maine toothpaste class action.

Claim forms must be submitted by that date to qualify for potential cash payments tied to a settlement with Tom’s of Maine. a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive Company. and Colgate. The case centers on allegations that certain Tom’s toothpaste products were sold using “deceptive and misleading business practices” related to manufacturing. marketing. and sale.

The settlement follows a lawsuit filed in December 2025 by consumers. The settlement website says the company has denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to resolve the matter to avoid litigation costs. Now, for class members, the remaining issue is whether they act before the deadline.

People eligible to claim are those who purchased one or more Tom’s of Maine toothpaste products in the United States between Nov. 21, 2020, and March 6, 2026.

To file, participants must fill out the claim form on the settlement website. The form can be submitted online, downloaded and mailed to the class administrator, or requested as a paper copy by contacting the administrator.

After claims are filed, a court will decide whether the deal moves forward. A final approval hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. local time. That hearing will determine whether the court will approve the settlement. consider any objections. and decide on requests for service awards—compensation—for the named plaintiffs who brought the lawsuits against the company.

Settlement payments will be distributed only if the court grants final approval and after any appeals are resolved. The settlement website also notes that it is unclear how much participants may receive.

One class member who submits an approved claim without proof of purchase may receive the total of the average manufacturer’s suggested retail price for up to one class product claimed per household. Tom’s toothpaste products vary in price from $3.99 to about $15.99, according to the company’s website.

Class members with proof of purchase may receive a full refund for the Tom’s products, with refunds capped at three class products per claim. If the total value of approved claims exceeds the funds available for distribution, class members will receive payments proportionally reduced as necessary.

For people who do not want to participate in the settlement, there is an opt-out path. Those wishing to opt out and keep the ability to sue the company independently must request exclusion by July 6. The request must be submitted to the class administrator. and the form must be postmarked no later than the opt-out deadline.

In the meantime, the timeline is already tightening: July 6 is the last day to file a claim and the last day to request exclusion, and Sept. 10 is the scheduled moment when the court will decide whether the settlement becomes final and distributions can proceed.
