The Strokes were supposed to arrive on June 26. Instead, the calendar moves—and fans are left staring at the space where a new album title used to sit.

The band has pushed back the release date of its seventh studio album from June 26 to July 24. The project has already been previewed with singles “Going Shopping” and “Falling Out of Love. ” both described as Auto-Tuned. following 2020’s The New Abnormal as the group’s first full-length since then. The Strokes also brought the new era into public view through a big, politically-charged Coachella performance.

No reason for the delay has been revealed.

What is clear, though, is that the wait is coming alongside internal disruption. It’s been announced that longtime guitarist Nick Valensi is taking a temporary break from touring with the Strokes after a November fallout with frontman Julian Casablancas.

Still, there’s movement on the live side—enough for fans to pivot from the frustration of a shifted release date to the excitement of a fresh date added to the tour.

The Strokes announced a mammoth new concert at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York City, where the group originated. The show will include Beach House, TV On The Radio, and Fcukers as supporting acts. The band shared the news on Instagram with the caption, “Let’s go Knicks.”

For anyone trying to map out when they’ll actually get to hear the new material, the tour is already set to start this weekend in Tennessee. From there, it carries across through October.

Even with the album delay and Valensi’s temporary absence from touring, the band’s summer and fall plans are taking shape in full view—one new date anchored to home territory, and one release date moved just far enough to change the mood of what’s next.
