‘Get a breathalyser’: Senior MPs clash on tax cuts
“Amanda needs to get a breathalyser,” Wilson said. “I mean, this is just – we need a reality check on what’s happened. We put into parliament 11 times different forms of tax cuts so Jim Chalmers’ active inflation agenda that constantly increases taxes silently on Australians would be cut out,” Wilson said. The first day of the Senate inquiry heard criticism from business groups, which said the changes were rushed and would dampen investment ambition. Independent economist Saul Eslake backed the reforms in principle, but
argued start-ups should be exempt and capital gains be averaged out over a number of years. Finance Minister Katy Gallagher conceded on Tuesday the government had more explaining to do to get Australians on board. “This is a big tax reform. Tax reform is hard,” Gallagher told Seven’s breakfast show Sunrise.

Breathalyser?? lol what does that even mean, like they’re drunk on tax policy or something.
So wait they said tax cuts are rushed and companies won’t invest… but also they want “get a reality check.” It’s like nobody can just agree. Sounds like more politics talk than actual help for regular people.
Amanda needs a breathalyser is crazy, but honestly I kind of get the vibe, like they’re annoyed because Chalmers is raising taxes quietly. If taxes keep going up, how is it a tax cut? Also “capital gains averaged out” sounds good? I don’t even know what averaged out means though.
Startups should be exempt… ok but who decides what counts as a startup? Every finance person I’ve ever met says “in principle” and then somehow it changes. Katy Gallagher saying they need more explaining means it’s not clear yet, so why did they rush it in the first place. And the business groups are mad because investment ambition?? sounds like they just don’t want competition with the government or whatever.
