Teoscar Hernández Promises Andy Pages His Sunflower Seed Job

When Dodgers fans hear a home run crack, it isn’t just the ball that gets launched—so do the sunflower seeds. And Teoscar Hernández made sure Andy Pages understands the tradition that comes with it.
Hernández recently joked that Pages will take his spot in the Dodgers organization when Hernández is gone. The “job” is simple and oddly specific: being the one in charge of throwing sunflower seeds after someone hits a home run.
“It’s getting better,” Hernández said about Pages’ sunflower seed throwing. “He’s going to have my job when I’m not here.”
Behind the light moment, the Dodgers are leaning on both players in ways that show up on the field. Hernández had a slow start to the year, described as a slump early on that didn’t match expectations. Since then. he’s been much better. and he’s started to look like the run producer Los Angeles has depended on.
Over the last two years, Hernández has been one of the more consistent parts of the Dodgers’ offense—so those early struggles carried extra weight. Still, he’s gotten his season back on track, especially as things have moved into late-season form.
His numbers reflect that shift. Overall, Hernández is hitting .276 with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in over 47 games, with an OPS of .796. Over his last 15 games, he’s turned it up to .358 with three home runs, 14 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.030.
Pages, meanwhile, is in the middle of a breakout year the Dodgers have taken real encouragement from. In 52 games, Andy Pages is hitting .283 with 10 home runs and 43 runs batted in, with an OPS of .823. He’s also playing above-average defense in center field. which has helped him build an early case to be an All-Star in the National League.
The sunflower-seed joke lands because the Dodgers’ plan appears to be unfolding in the same direction the stats do. Hernández is 33, Pages is 25, and the long-term future of the outfield increasingly points toward Pages.
Both players are expected to be main pieces as the Dodgers look to win again this season. But if the future arrives sooner than anyone wants to admit. Pages won’t just be taking a spot in center field—he’ll be inheriting the sunflower seed job too. the one Hernández says is his to hand off whenever he’s not here.

Sunflower seeds?? That’s the most Dodgers thing ever.
So Pages is gonna throw seeds now when he hits a homer? Honestly I love that tradition lol. Hopefully it helps him hit more, but who even thought of that anyway.
Wait I thought Teoscar was already done or something? Like people said he was slumping and then suddenly he’s not. And Pages is in center already? I’m just confused how quickly they’re calling him an All-Star when it’s only like half the season.
This is cute but also… why are they making a whole “job” out of throwing sunflower seeds when the real job is hitting? Like .276 means nothing to me tbh, and the OPS numbers sound fake. I’m sure it’s working out for them though, unless the sunflower seeds distract him or whatever. Dodgers always got some gimmick.
