In 2022, Boyle suffered a stroke, a health setback that significantly impacted her ability to speak and sing. After a year of extensive rehabilitation. she returned to the stage in 2023—choosing Britain’s Got Talent as the place to face the spotlight again. It was on that surprise appearance where she directly addressed her condition after singing “I Dreamed a Dream” for the episode. “It feels great. It is extra special for me actually because last April I suffered a minor stroke… I have fought like crazy to get back on stage. And I have done it,” she said.

Recovery didn’t happen overnight. Boyle has undergone extensive speech therapy and vocal lessons to regain her singing skills. In a recent interview with The Sun. she described how surreal it feels to be where she is now: “It feels surreal to be here now. I never thought I would be able to come this far. I’ve had a lot of encouragement and the public have been so loving to me.”.

She said the speech therapy—at first—felt hard to deal with. but after a few weeks of rehabilitation. she “somewhat regained” her voice. Along the way, she’s continued with “a lot of vocal lessons” and has learned to move carefully. “I am taking wee baby steps. If you go too fast, too soon, you go down a hole. It took a while for my confidence to come back with my music. But I am getting there. Slowly,” she shared.

Even as she plans her final era, Boyle is still keeping the door open to new work. She hinted she may be heading back into the recording studio soon. saying she hasn’t had much time to start writing songs because she’s been busy. “I am flying to Los Angeles soon for work. It might be a recording trip, but I like to keep my cards close to my chest. I can’t say any more,” she said.

There’s also a separate kind of spotlight building behind the scenes. Boyle said a biopic chronicling her rise to fame and enduring legacy is currently in the works. “We are in the process of my story being put out on the screen, but I can’t say anything else just yet,” she revealed.

For a performer whose comeback has already taken years of fight and patience, the retirement plan feels less like an ending and more like a carefully chosen finish line—one she’s working toward step by step, voice by voice.
