69,663 Subaru – Subaru is recalling 69,663 2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles after reports that power moonroof glass panels may detach due to improper primer application. Subaru will inspect and, if needed, replace the moonroof glass at no cost, with owner letters ex
A 2026 Subaru Forester may look the same on the outside, but the concern is inside the roof. Subaru has launched a recall affecting 69,663 vehicles because the power moonroof glass panel can become detached while the car is operating—an issue that could lead to injury or a crash.
The recall covers the 2026 Subaru Forester and the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid, according to a recall notice published May 28 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. Subaru’s recall number is WRF-26.
Most of the affected vehicles are standard Foresters: 65,656 cars produced from June 19, 2025, to March 13, 2026. Another 4,007 are Forester Hybrid models produced between Feb. 20 and March 17.
Subaru says the vehicles may have been manufactured without the power moonroof being properly installed due to a lack of primer. Over time, the bond between the sliding frame and the glass can deteriorate, the notice says, allowing the moonroof glass to detach while the car is in operation.
Subaru’s notice describes how the issue surfaced. On Feb. 26, the company received a report stating that the power moonroof glass panel had become detached from the car. Subaru then opened an investigation. In the U.S. market, there have been at least three instances of the panel becoming detached between Feb. 26 and March 25. The company said it is not aware of any crash or injuries related to the issue.
The root cause is tied to the primer needed to ensure proper bonding between the glass panel and the sliding frame, the recall report states. Vehicles not included in the recall have moonroofs with a glass panel that is properly installed in the sliding frame, according to Subaru.
Subaru identified the affected cars using vehicle production records, the notice says.
Dealers will handle the remedy by inspecting the power moonroof glass panel for proper adhesion and, if necessary, replacing the vehicle’s glass panel for free.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 24. Owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614.
For owners trying to check their cars sooner, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning May 29.
The timeline matters here: the company received its first report on Feb. 26, opened an investigation, saw at least three detachments between Feb. 26 and March 25. and then moved toward the formal recall process that was published May 28—leaving owners now focused on inspection and replacement while they wait for the July 24 mailings.
