America250’s Los Angeles concert is distinct from another anniversary gathering planned for Washington. DC—Freedom 250—organized by a separate group. Freedom 250. That DC event drew headlines in May after performers began dropping out just hours after the performance was announced. Before the departures, Freedom 250’s lineup—mostly ’90s-era performers including Brett Michaels, Morris Day and Milli Vanilli—received bipartisan criticism.
Since then, President Donald Trump has announced a new lineup of performers for the Freedom 250 event, including himself and country singer Lee Greenwood.
Asked about how the Los Angeles show came together, an America250 spokesperson said planning has been in the works for months. The group, the spokesperson said in an email, worked to find “a range of well-known, nationally appealing artists.”
The larger America250 effort also continues to build toward July 4 milestones across the country. “America’s Time Capsule” has been officially sealed. All 50 states contributed items to the capsule, which will be buried in Philadelphia on July 4 and opened 250 years later.
