Chiefs consider Boutte trade to keep Mahomes stocked
Chiefs trade – A trade proposal circulating around the Chiefs centers on Kayshon Boutte coming to Kansas City in exchange for a fifth-round pick next year, with the Patriots possibly sweetening the deal by including Felix Anudike-Uzomah. The idea is built around a receiver r
For the second straight year, the Kansas City Chiefs are heading into a season with a receiver position that still feels like a question mark.
The concern was there a season ago, and it didn’t exactly vanish in the offseason. Brett Veach didn’t make a major splash to overhaul the wide receiver group. The two most notable moves at the position were re-signing Tyquan Thornton and spending a fifth-round pick on Cyrus Allen.
But with Rashee Rice’s off-the-field issues continuing to swirl, wide receiver is likely to remain on the watch list in Kansas City. The proposal making the rounds pushes in that direction.
Graham Wilker of Musket Fire proposed a trade that would send Kayshon Boutte to the Chiefs. The price in his hypothetical: a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft—and possibly a player as well. Wilker floated Felix Anudike-Uzomah as a possible piece the Patriots could add.
Wilker framed it as a risk worth taking if it gets the Chiefs what they still need. The logic is simple: Kansas City has a need for Boutte, and it’s also about the quarterback relationship—getting a wide receiver to help Patrick Mahomes’ career flourish.
The timing matters because Boutte himself is the kind of player who could end up drawing trade attention. Wilker suggested it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see Boutte involved in his own trade talks, with the idea that he’ll be looking for a place where he can maximize his talents.
Kansas City’s depth chart already lists Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton at the top. Still. the proposal leans on the notion that the Chiefs would likely be willing to move more draft value than other teams because the need is clear. and the fit—especially as a target for Mahomes—could be immediate.
A fifth-round pick feels like a reasonable tag for Boutte. but it isn’t the only way the deal could look. The idea that the Patriots might include a player is part of what makes the pitch realistic. Wilker pointed to the possibility of a seventh-round selection coming along with former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah. The reason: the Patriots have already shown they can resurrect a career once a player hits their system—citing K’Lavon Chaisson as an example—and another “bite at the apple” wouldn’t be a stretch.
In the version Wilker laid out, Kansas City would send a fifth-round pick and potentially Anudike-Uzomah to New England in exchange for Boutte. The deal would effectively keep the compensation in Day 3 territory for the Chiefs.
And the broader pitch is built around what Boutte could offer the quarterback. If Boutte joins Kansas City, he gives Mahomes another weapon to throw to. Boutte was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by New England. His rookie year was largely forgettable. but Wilker’s case focuses on the bounceback: Boutte “popped off the page” in Year 2 for a sixth-rounder.
His production is the centerpiece of the argument. Boutte finished the 2024 campaign with 589 yards and three touchdowns. In 2025, he followed that with a 551-yard season and six touchdowns—proof, in this framing, that he can be a productive target rather than just a development project.
That’s what makes the trade idea land with Chiefs fans who are tired of watching Kansas City try to force answers at wide receiver. The position has been difficult to fill. and the Chiefs—by necessity—keep throwing different options at the wall and seeing what sticks. Boutte, in this scenario, would be the move that changes the equation.
Even if Anudike-Uzomah is part of the swap. the proposal leans on the idea that Kansas City would be comfortable taking on that risk. Wilker described him as being viewed as a bust by the majority of the fan base. which is part of why bringing him along—or swapping draft value for him—could make financial and football sense in a trade package.
The bottom line of the pitch is straightforward: bring in Boutte, see if he becomes the target Mahomes needs, and do it without sacrificing anything more than a Day 3 pick—depending on whether a player is included.
In a season where wide receiver still feels unfinished in Kansas City, a deal like this isn’t being sold as a luxury. It’s being framed as the kind of practical adjustment teams make when the stakes are high and the clock keeps moving.

Boutte to the Chiefs? Wow.
Isn’t this just the Chiefs taking another “maybe he’ll be good” WR? Like Rashee Rice is already a mess and now they want Boutte too? I don’t even know who Felix Anudike-Uzomah is lol.
They’re basically trading a 5th for Boutte and then throwing in some other dude? Mahomes needs more weapons but KC always acts like one draft pick fixes everything. Also “receiver question mark” like they didn’t have time to draft someone better last year.
Wait so the Patriots would add Felix and the Chiefs would send… what, their hopes and dreams? I saw something about Rashee Rice and thought this meant Mahomes might actually leave, which is probably not true but whatever. Also Boutte already sounds like he’s gonna be injured half the season like everyone else KC picks up. If they’re trading for “Mahomes connection” then why not just bring back an old WR and stop gambling on rookies?
