Serena Williams’ Queen’s Club doubles ends after Mboko injury

Serena Williams is out of the Queen’s Club doubles after her playing partner Victoria Mboko’s knee injury forced the pair to withdraw from the tournament The Canadian had limped off the court in tears on Wednesday, conceding her match against Karolina Pliskova with the scores 6-2 3-4 to the Czech in the second set, leaving her Wimbledon campaign in doubt. Williams and her partner had breezed to a 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 victory over third-seeded duo Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe in the former’s first appearance

since the 2022 US Open. The pair were scheduled to face Canadian Layla Fernandez and German Laura Siegemund in the second round of the doubles tournament tomorrow, but Mboko’s injury means that the match will not take place and their tournament is over. 1. I saw “in tears” and instantly thought it was Serena’s knee?? Like why does it say partner injured but everyone’s emotional lol. Either way, Wimbledon campaign in doubt sounds dramatic.

  2. So they withdrew because the partner got hurt, but Serena still goes to Berlin? That feels backwards, like just stay home and rest. Also I swear doubles injuries always mess everything up, then suddenly it’s “momentum” again.

  3. Queen’s Club doubles ends and then she adds Berlin Open… I don’t get it. If Wimbledon’s in doubt, why keep adding tournaments? And wasn’t Serena supposed to be on some comeback path like 100%? Sounds like injury + scheduling chaos and I’m sure the draw is partly to blame too, right? idk, tennis is confusing.
