BOSTON — The Scottish takeover didn’t stay neatly in the stands.

At Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox hosted the Texas Rangers during what was billed as Scottish Heritage Night. Many of the fans wore Red Sox soccer jersey giveaways. and their energy read less like a typical baseball crowd and more like a matchday scene. They stood through the game, chanted “No Scotland, No Party” as the most popular refrain, and kept singing.

One moment felt like it could’ve stayed light—until it didn’t. Under the grandstands in right field. after the final pitch. Scottish supporters turned up the volume for a second wave of celebration. singing a tune honoring goal-scorer John McGinn. For fans, it was the kind of noise that doesn’t match baseball’s usual rhythm. For everyone else, it was a reminder of how quickly a sporting invitation can turn into a neighborhood-sized declaration.

The momentum had already been building over the weekend. The Scots took over Boston Common before their squad defeated Haiti 1-0 on Saturday, June 13. Their next World Cup game is Friday against Morocco, again in Foxborough.

By the time the Red Sox-Rangers game ended. the “Sunday Night Baseball” night at Fenway had stopped being just a themed visit. It had become a signal—Scotland’s first two games of the 2026 World Cup group stage are set in nearby Foxborough.
