In the National League Central, Milwaukee leads at 45-28 (.616). St. Louis is 40-34 (.541), 5½ back, Chicago is 40-36 (.526), 6½ behind, and Pittsburgh is 38-38 (.500), 8½ back. Cincinnati is 35-39 (.473), 10½ games back.
The National League West is led by Los Angeles at 49-27 (.645). Arizona follows at 39-36 (.520), 9½ behind, San Diego is 38-36 (.514) 10 behind, San Francisco is 31-44 (.413) 17½ back, and Colorado is 29-47 (.382) 20 back.
Friday’s American League games included Chicago Cubs 16, Toronto 2; Detroit 4, Chicago White Sox 3; Tampa Bay 5, Washington 2; and N.Y. Yankees 5, Cincinnati 0. Houston beat Cleveland 9-3, Kansas City edged St. Louis 6-5, Texas defeated San Diego 9-7, and Boston handled Seattle 6-2. Arizona won 9-5 over Minnesota, L.A. Dodgers beat Baltimore 6-5, and there was a late, dramatic finish with Athletics 12, L.A. Angels 11 in 10 innings.
