Zelenskyy: Drones hit Russian refinery in Tyumen

For a second day in a row, the question was not just whether missiles would fly, but how far Ukraine’s drones could reach.
On Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used his nightly video address to say that Ukrainian drones had struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Tyumen Region in western Siberia—more than 1. 200 miles from Ukraine. He framed the strike as a direct response to Russian attacks and praised what he called the Ukrainian military’s special operations for reaching as far as Tyumen.
Zelenskyy said the operations had “reached Tyumen Region in Russia, including an oil refining facility. More than 2,000 km (1,242 miles) from our state border. This is effective work.” He described the damage to Russia’s ability to sustain the war as the point of Ukraine’s wider drone campaign. which has increasingly targeted the oil industry.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Interior Minister said Russian forces launched overnight strikes across Ukraine on June 2. The ministry put the toll at 13 people killed and more than 100 injured.
In Tyumen, the governor, Alexander Moor, said Russian air defences repelled a drone attack on the oil refinery. Moor added that, according to preliminary reports, there was no damage and staff were evacuated.
The refinery itself is among Russia’s most modern and complex. Industry estimates put its nominal capacity at around 8 million metric tons per year. It processes roughly 6 million tons of crude annually, producing about 0.5 million tons of gasoline and 2.5 million tons of diesel.
Zelenskyy also used the moment to draw a sharper line between what Ukraine can do now and what it planned to do next. He said Ukraine had developed new long-range drones capable of operating over 1,800 miles and said the newly modernised systems “have also been successfully deployed.”
“They can now reach targets at a distance of 3,000 km,” Zelenskyy said. He added that these strikes were a “justified response” to Russian strikes against Ukraine and said, “Ukraine’s plan of long-range operations is being implemented.”
Taken together. the sequence was stark: Russian strikes across Ukraine left civilians hurt. and Zelenskyy responded by pointing to a drone strike at an energy site more than 1. 200 miles away—while Tyumen officials said air defences had repelled the attack and preliminary checks found no damage. The push to disrupt oil-linked war financing is embedded in both the geography and the targeting.
For months, Ukraine’s military has been engaged in a campaign of medium and long-range strikes on Russian targets, focusing mainly on the oil industry to hinder Moscow’s capability to fund the war.

So drones are just flying over Siberia now?? Wild.
I don’t even get how they measure “more than 1,200 miles” like okay cool but what about civilians? If there was supposedly no damage in Tyumen then why are they acting like it’s a huge victory.
“Long-range” drones reaching Tyumen sounds like propaganda. Like first they hit one thing, then claim it reduces Russia’s ability to fight, but you can’t really tell from a headline. Also I saw someone say Tyumen is basically on the edge of Ukraine?? so idk.
Every time Zelensky talks it’s like a new scorecard. Drones hit refineries far away then Russia launches strikes the next day—meanwhile regular people are the ones paying. “Evacuated staff” is mentioned but that’s still terrifying. Also the refinery numbers are crazy, 8 million tons blah blah, I just feel like this is going to keep escalating.
