Darkness pulled the plug on Sunday at TPC River Highlands, and now it’s all down to what happens on the 18th hole again.
Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland will return for a sudden-death playoff on Monday. June 29 to determine the winner of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell. Connecticut. The two finished Sunday’s round at 21 under par before the action was suspended due to darkness. Earlier in the day, rain delayed the round.
This will be the 26th playoff in Travelers Championship history, and the first since Scheffler beat Tom Kim in 2024. Scheffler, ranked No. 1 overall in the World, is 2-2 in playoff appearances, while Hovland is 1-0.
Collin Morikawa had finished his round before Scheffler and Hovland, sitting at 20 under. He was seen indoors swinging a golf club in case he needed to return for the potential playoff.
The playoff also carries the feeling of a tour trend turning into a scheduling moment: Monday’s showdown will be the PGA Tour’s sixth playoff of the season. It will also be the first Monday finish on the PGA Tour since Rory McIlroy defeated J.J. Spaun to win the 2025 Players.
Hovland entered Sunday leading the tournament after three rounds of action. He posted a 6-under 64 on Saturday to build a one-stroke lead over Scheffler.
The winner will be decided through a sudden-death format with the players teeing off at 9 a.m. ET and repeating play of the 18th hole until a champion is crowned.

For the players, the timeline is stark: rain delayed the round, darkness stopped it, and the gap between second place and a title is now one hole repeated until someone breaks through.

Golf is literally unwatchable until it goes to sudden death.
So they stopped because of darkness but now they restart from the 18th like it’s gonna magically be different? Kinda dumb honestly.
I saw somewhere Scheffler was already done or whatever? Like how did he end up tied if the rain delayed everything. Either way I’ll take Viktor, he always seems more chill.
Wait Monday at 9 a.m. ET… so does that mean they’re gonna play 18 over and over until one guy gives up? Also Golf Channel “live” like that actually works lol. I’m just confused why they didn’t finish on Sunday if they were already close, 21 under or whatever. Sounds like the tournament got paused and everyone just reset their mood.
