Canary Islands cook at 35°C as winds peak

The Canary Islands are set for another spell of hot and windy weather today, Monday, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 35°C in some areas and gusts of wind reaching 80km/h, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The combination of rising temperatures, strong trade winds and calima at higher altitudes is expected to affect much of the archipelago, particularly inland and southern areas. Temperatures on the rise The hottest conditions are forecast for Gran Canaria, where temperatures could exceed 35°C in the

mid-altitude areas of the southeast, south, west and around Tejeda. Elsewhere, highs of 30°C to 32°C are expected in parts of Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, especially inland and along southern coastlines. Strong winds and rough seas Moderate to strong trade winds will affect all of the islands, with the strongest conditions expected on southeast and northwest slopes, where gusts could exceed 80km/h during the afternoon. Lanzarote and southern Fuerteventura are also expected to experience particularly strong winds, especially overnight and later in the day. At

sea, northeast to easterly winds of Force 5 to 6, occasionally increasing to Force 7, will produce rough or very rough conditions. A northeast swell of between one and two metres is also forecast, meaning extra caution is advised for anyone planning to head out on the water. to a high of 27°C LanzaroteLanzarote will see periods of cloud, particularly in the north during the early morning, before sunnier spells develop.
