Rain shifts play as Andreeva and Kostyuk surge

Rain forces – Persistent rain on Day 10 of the 2026 French Open pushed singles matches onto Court Philippe Chatrier. No. 8 Mirra Andreeva advanced to the semifinals in under an hour, and No. 15 Marta Kostyuk extended her clay streak to 17 wins, setting up a Thursday semifin
Day 10 at the 2026 French Open didn’t start the way the tournament wanted. Heat that had defined the first week gave way to persistent rain, and the downpour forced organizers to move all singles matches to Court Philippe Chatrier.
The choice wasn’t random. Chatrier is one of only two courts equipped with a retractable roof, and with the weather refusing to cooperate, it became the place where play could keep going.
On Tuesday, June 2, the change in conditions set the stage for two straight-track advances into the semifinals—one involving Mirra Andreeva, the other Marta Kostyuk.
In women’s singles, Andreeva, the No. 8 seed, delivered a controlled, fast win over No. 18 Sorana Cirstea of Romania. Andreeva overpowered the Romanian in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-3, and did it in under an hour.
The result moved Andreeva to the semifinals at Roland Garros. On Thursday, she’s scheduled to face No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk.
Kostyuk’s path to that matchup looked just as inevitable. The No. 15 seed extended her win streak on clay to 17 matches, defeating Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The win also sent Kostyuk to her first Grand Slam semifinal.
After the match, Kostyuk said: “I want to give this match to Ukrainian people and to their resilience,” and added, “I’m so happy to be through to the semifinals but I want to thank Elina for this incredible match.”
There was no shortage of drama elsewhere in the bracket. In the opening men’s singles quarterfinal, No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany rallied to take the first set against No. 27 Rafael Jodar of Spain on a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-3).
Here’s the full slate of Tuesday’s singles results.
Men’s singles:
No. 2 Alexander Zverev, Germany vs. No. 27 Rafael Jodar, Spain
No. 26 Jakub Mensik, Czech Republic vs. No. 28 Joao Fonseca, Brazil (2:15 p.m.)

No. 15 Marta Kostyuk, Ukraine, def. No. 7 Elina Svitolina, Ukraine, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2
The semifinal picture for Thursday took shape with that women’s semifinal pairing already set: No. 15 Marta Kostyuk against No. 8 Mirra Andreeva for a place in the final.
The weather that squeezed the schedule into roofed play didn’t just change logistics—it forced every remaining singles match to share the same limited space. With the roof-backed court becoming the only reliable path through the rain. Tuesday’s results feel even sharper: the semifinal line-up is already locked. even as the tournament’s conditions remain unpredictable.
Looking ahead, Wednesday, June 3, brings the quarterfinal schedule:
