Pat Sajak breaks silence with Montana cattle joke

Retired “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak returned to X after three months of silence, posting a video in a palm-tree garden with the ocean behind him—then joking that he’s moved to Montana and has “cattle to attend to.”

When Pat Sajak finally reappeared online, it wasn’t with a dramatic announcement. It was a quiet hello—followed by a punchline only a man like him could deliver.

On Sunday. June 14. the retired “Wheel of Fortune” host posted a video on X after three months with no social media activity. In the clip, Sajak stood in a garden filled with palm trees, ocean visible in the background. He wore a striped shirt, cream pants, and sunglasses. “Hi, I know many of you have been wondering and asking how I’ve been doing,” he said. Then, with the calm assurance of someone who has nothing left to prove, he added, “And I’m enjoying life!”.

The update came with Sajak’s trademark dryness. “I’ve moved here to Montana, and everything is going just great,” he joked. “So, I just want to say hello, now, if you excuse me, I have some cattle to attend to.” A cow mooed in the background as if to underline the point.

Sajak’s last stint on the show ended after decades at the center of American game-show life. He departed “Wheel of Fortune” in June 2024 after 40 years as host, bringing 41 seasons to a close. Ryan Seacrest stepped in as replacement, co-hosting alongside long-time letter-turner Vanna White. Sajak also hosted his final season of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” the following year.

Before his full exit. Sajak had said in a statement that his “time has come. ” describing his run as “a wonderful ride.” At the time. Suzanne Prete. executive vice president for game shows at Sony Pictures Television. said. “We are incredibly grateful and proud to have had Pat as our host for all these years. ” adding that he will “continue as a consultant on the show for three years following his last year hosting.”.

The comments under his latest post filled quickly with the kind of warmth fans reserve for familiar voices that suddenly go quiet. “We miss you Pat!. Well deserved retirement!” wrote one X user. Another joked. “I had some ocean front property in Arizona once!!!” Someone else added. “Bro had me second guessing my geography for a sec.”.

Other messages leaned into what Sajak’s fans have always enjoyed: the dry humor and the sense that he’s still the same person even when the set lights aren’t on him. “Grew up watching you, my mom is a HUGE fan. Glad to see you are doing well and well deserved. Thanks for being an invaluable member of the entertainment community!” one commenter wrote. “This video underscores your signature dry wit. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement,” another said.

There were lighter. background-focused jokes too—like one user who said. “That’s a pretty big pond that you have there in the background. Can imagine that your cows will really enjoy cooling off in it on these hot summer days.” And another simply offered the kind of straightforward blessing that matches the moment: “Enjoy life Pat!. You’ve worked long enough!”.
