Newsom alleges Trump ordered DOJ to investigate him

Newsom alleges – California Gov. Gavin Newsom says President Donald Trump directed the Department of Justice to investigate him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, arguing federal inquiries have not found a crime and are aimed at derailing his political future.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom did not wait for a briefing or a court filing to make his accusation. On Monday, he went straight to social media and a video statement, saying President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to investigate him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

Newsom made the claim in a post on X and said he believes the probe is tied to one thing: he is considering running for President. In the video, he argued that Trump targets people who challenge him, calling it a pattern that repeatedly ends the same way.

“One by one, anyone who has challenged Donald Trump has ended up on his hit list,” Newsom said. “And today, I proudly join that list.”

He did not specify what the DOJ investigation is focusing on, or whether he even has full clarity on what it involves. But he said the direction he has received from federal authorities is clear.

“He has directed his Department of Justice to investigate us,” Newsom said. “They have not found a crime — they are simply trying to find one.”

In his comparison. Newsom placed his own situation alongside other Trump opponents he said have faced DOJ scrutiny during the president’s second term. He referenced former FBI Director James Comey, former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

The governor’s account also described what the investigation has looked like on the ground. In his video statement, Newsom said federal agents in recent days have knocked on the doors of “family friends and former employees.”

Then he raised the allegation that the pressure has moved closer to home.

“Just in the last week, I’ve learned his campaign has reached my own home: to get me, he’s coming after my wife, Jen,” Newsom said. He added that she is “a public servant” who “has dedicated her life to supporting women and girls.”

Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a documentary filmmaker.

Newsom also said the DOJ is demanding records and is “abusing the grand jury process” as part of what he described as an attempt to pressure him politically.

“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets,” Newsom said. “He’s coming after me because I am considering running for President.”

He continued by framing the probe as punishment for repeatedly criticizing Trump.

“Because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out – over and over again – for his lies and deceit,” Newsom said. “Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt President in American history.”

The DOJ and the White House have not publicly responded in the material provided here. The account also notes that CNBC requested comment from the DOJ and the White House.

At this point. the central tension in Newsom’s allegation is stark: he says he is being investigated without evidence of a crime. while offering a motive tied directly to his presidential ambitions. The only concrete details he provided about the investigation itself are how it has reached beyond official channels into personal relationships. and the claim that records are being demanded and the grand jury process is being misused.
