Naylor exits in Mets win with back spasms

Josh Naylor left Monday night’s 3-2, 10-inning win over the New York Mets with back spasms. The Mariners say his status is day-to-day after a tying seventh-inning home run preceded his stiffened back.
SEATTLE — Josh Naylor’s big swing helped Seattle tie the game, but the celebration ended fast.
Naylor exited Monday night’s 3-2 win against the New York Mets in 10 innings with back spasms. according to manager Dan Wilson. The Mariners first baseman took reliever Brooks Raley deep for a tying home run in the seventh. When Naylor rounded the bases and returned to the Seattle dugout, his back had stiffened.
Patrick Wisdom, who pinch hit for Luke Raley later in the inning, replaced Naylor at first base to start the eighth.
Wilson said the issue felt connected to the swing. “I believe it was more on the swing, on the home run,” Wilson said. “And when he got back in, it was tight.” Wilson added that Naylor’s status is day-to-day.
The injury comes at a difficult moment for the 28-year-old slugger’s season. He began the year with a frigid stretch, hitting .102 with two RBIs through Seattle’s first 15 games. In May, he turned things around, batting .296 with one home run, three doubles and nine RBIs across 108 at-bats.
Naylor’s history in Seattle also helps frame why the Mariners will be watching him closely. Acquired last July in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. he batted .299 with nine homers. 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 54 games for Seattle in 2025. He signed a $92.5 million, five-year contract last November.
The timing of his exit—right after a tying blast off Brooks Raley—means Seattle’s focus now shifts from a hard-earned late win to whether Naylor can return quickly enough to maintain its pace at the plate.
