Slimmer Apple Vision Pro won’t arrive until 2028

The vision of a slimmer, lighter, lower-cost Apple Vision Pro keeps appearing in the rumors—but the schedule looks stubbornly far off.
Apple is continuing work on a next-generation Apple Vision Pro in parallel with smart glasses. yet it won’t be launched until 2028 or 2029. according to Bloomberg. The idea of a second generation model has been floating around practically since the first Apple Vision Pro shipped. and the wishlist has stayed consistent: make it lighter and slimmer. then bring the price down.
The new claim also tries to square an older contradiction. Earlier reporting had suggested Apple had given up on the headset, but this update says Apple Vision Pro development is “on ice” until development leads the company to that slimmer, lighter, lower-cost model.
Still, the report includes a timing window for when that frozen period might end. It speculates that the earliest Apple Vision Pro 2 could launch is either late 2028 or 2029. The report doesn’t point to specific new evidence for that date—just the idea that the earliest launch could fall in that range.
The timeline already has plenty of history. Back in 2023, report writer Mark Gurman predicted a low-cost “Apple Vision” (without the Pro) would debut in late 2025. Then, in November 2024, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the lower-cost model was delayed to “beyond 2027.”
Complicating the picture even further is the fact that Apple has, at times, been described as working on at least three different headsets. That makes it unclear which exact device the latest claim is referring to as priorities shift.
What does feel more specific in the new report is where Apple’s energy is going. It’s more focused on smart glasses, describing that Apple is now concentrating its efforts toward them—while Vision Pro 2 waits for the conditions the company supposedly needs to meet before development can unfreeze.

2028?? That’s insane. By then they’ll just call it something else and pretend it’s brand new.
I swear these rumors are always “on ice” like my leftovers in the fridge. If it’s about making it cheaper, why not just lower the price now instead of waiting till 2029.
“Smart glasses” sounds like the iPhone SE version of vision stuff. So is the Vision Pro 2 cancelled or are they literally just making it thinner because people got annoyed wearing it for like 10 minutes? Also how is 2028 the earliest when they already stopped the first one??
Bloomberg again, so take it with a grain of salt, but I feel like Apple delays everything. Maybe they’re building it lighter using cheaper parts and that’s why it’s so late. And the “earliest could be late 2028” thing… sounds like they’re trying to hedge while switching to the glasses everyone can’t afford anyway.
