Myles Garrett made his much-anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Rams during their Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, Sept. 10. It didn’t go as many had envisioned.
Garrett was practically invisible during his Rams debut. He was unable to generate much pressure on Brock Purdy throughout the matchup and failed to log a single tackle for Los Angeles.
Garrett’s performance was a far cry from the form he demonstrated during his final season with the Cleveland Browns. He posted an NFL-record 23 sacks while playing in Jim Schwartz’s defense, which helped him cruise to his second Defensive Player of the Year award of the last three seasons.
So, what went wrong for Garrett in his Rams debut? Here’s what to know about his Week 1 dud in Los Angeles’ 27-7 loss against San Francisco.
Is Myles Garrett injured?
Garrett did not enter the Rams’ Week 1 game against the 49ers with an injury designation. However, Netflix’s Tom Pelissero noted Garrett wasn’t quite at 100% as he continues to deal with a malady that has plagued him since training camp.
“He’s been subbing in and out throughout, and every time that he leaves the field, he really seems gassed,” Pelissero said of Garrett during a fourth-quarter sideline report. “Remember, he barely practiced in training camp because of what the team has called a knee injury. He told us it’s ‘lower-leg stuff’ and admitted it is still causing him some pain.”
It isn’t clear whether Garrett’s performance will cause the Rams to change their injury designation for the 30-year-old. Either way, it will be worth monitoring ahead of their Week 2 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Garrett did not record a counting stat against the 49ers. It marked the first time he had posted such a line since Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season, when he failed to record a stat in the Browns’ 35-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
