Premier League star’s car flipped on its roof in residential street: Hull City’s new £10m signing in crash in his Land Rover Defender while on the way to training
Hull City’s new signing Sorba Thomas’s car was involved in a crash on his way to training, new pictures on Friday morning have revealed.
A Land Rover Defender with a personalised number plate linking it to the £10million star was pictured on its roof with smashed glass just a stone’s throw from Hull City’s training ground. The luxury car is a favourite of footballers and can be worth up to £160,000.
A member of staff from the club, understood to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, can be seen in images from the scene of the crash, which is understood to have happened on Millhouse Wood Lane.
Residents looked on stunned at the crash on the narrow road, where locals say speeds typically only hit 15mph. Thomas, 27, is said to be ‘completely unscathed’.
A Hull City statement this morning read: ‘Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.
‘The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.’

Thomas has featured twice for the Tigers since making the step up from Championship club Stoke City in a £10m summer transfer.
Hours before the crash, Jakirovic had been commenting on his new signing, saying he had ‘no doubt’ about his capability to play in the Premier League.
‘I don’t have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship,’ he said.
‘He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left-sided No 10. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces.
‘He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us.’
The Welshman started Tuesday night’s 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat by Sunderland and made an appearance off the bench in the 0-0 Premier League draw against Aston Villa.
After his cameo against Villa, Thomas shared his delight on Instagram. He posted: Pinch [me] moment for me and my family today!!! Premier League debut.’
Hull face Chelsea on Saturday at 3pm in the Premier League.
