On June 23, a familiar smell could be back in the air around fast-food counters: McDonald’s is bringing Fried Apple Pie back to select restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
The company confirmed that the Fried Apple Pie will return beginning June 23, available all day. McDonald’s says the filling is made with 100% American-grown apples, and the dessert is positioned as a fan favorite tied to a bigger national celebration.
McDonald’s is framing the return around America’s 250th birthday this year, calling the reappearance of the pie a salute to the semiquincentennial.
The brand also points to where the dessert’s story began. The Fried Apple Pie first appeared at McDonald’s locations in East Tennessee in the 1960s. when owner/operator Litton Cochran started selling them at his restaurants. McDonald’s says the pie became a local fan favorite and later grew into a staple on the chain’s dessert menu.
The comeback doesn’t stop at the counter. McDonald’s announced a new outdoor landmark: a 35-foot Apple Pie monument along Route 66. In a news release. the company said: “A 35-foot Fried Apple Pie is rising from the roadside. paying tribute to our fans’ love for this classic American dessert. right off America’s most iconic road.”.
The monument will debut just outside of Chicago with a kickoff event on June 23. McDonald’s says the installation will be located at 920 N. Broadway in St. Joliet, Illinois, and will remain in place through July 4.
The sequence is simple. but the payoff is direct: a dessert return tied to American-grown ingredients is paired with a roadside centerpiece. turning a limited-time menu item into a national moment. For fans who remember the pie’s earlier run. the dates—June 23 through July 4 for the monument. and a limited-time return for restaurants—make the timing feel like more than a promotion.
For now, McDonald’s has been clear on what’s coming and when: Fried Apple Pie returning to select restaurants nationwide on June 23, and a 35-foot Fried Apple Pie monument set to rise outside Chicago on the same day, stationed at 920 N. Broadway in St. Joliet, Illinois, until July 4.

Finally, something good. 35-foot pie monument?? I’m going.
Wait June 23 at select restaurants like… all of them or only some? I swear every time I see this it’s nowhere near me. Also 100% American apples sounds fake but I’ll try it anyway.
They’re bringing it back because of the 250th birthday thing right? So like… that’s why they made it a monument too lol. I thought pie was like a World Cup sponsor or something. Route 66 near Chicago is cool though, but do they still have it by me?
I remember these from when I was a kid in Tennessee so this sounds right I guess. But also why is it “select” restaurants if it’s a whole national moment? Sounds like marketing, like they want people to drive to Joliet just for a photo. If it’s only June 23-July 4 for the monument, is the pie only June 23 too? Confusing.
