The Knicks are headed into Game 4 with their season on a knife edge—and on Wednesday, New York itself is being asked to wear the message on its sleeve.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani officially declared Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as “Wear Blue and Orange Day” across the five boroughs. In the proclamation shared through an official announcement document posted on X. the mayor invited city workers. public school students. and educators to dress in the team’s signature blue and orange as New York prepares for a pivotal Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs.

“Nothing says ‘let’s go Knicks’ like blue and orange,” Mamdani said in the release. “As our Knicks continue this historic run, we’re inviting New Yorkers to show their pride, wear the city’s colors, and stand behind a team that has brought all of New York together.”

The holiday comes with the timing set by disappointment. New York dropped Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. falling 115-111 in a defeat that snapped their historic 13-game postseason winning streak. Superstar guard Jalen Brunson led the way with 32 points, while OG Anunoby added 28—but the Knicks faltered down the stretch.

San Antonio delivered the kind of spike that changes the mood of a series. Victor Wembanyama put up a spectacular 32-point, eight-rebound, six-assist performance, and the Spurs also got 23 points from rookie Stephon Castle. New York struggled to find consistent supplementary offense in the second half. with Karl-Anthony Towns finishing on 11 points and Mikal Bridges managing just two.

Now, the series doesn’t look like it’s slipping—at least not yet. The Knicks still hold a 2-1 series lead. But with pressure rising, Wednesday’s citywide show of blue and orange gives the moment a different feel: a metropolis-wide push at the exact time New York needs its bounce-back.

With the five boroughs draped in Knicks colors ahead of the matchup, the goal is clear as the calendar turns: secure a commanding 3-1 lead before heading back out on the road.

  1. I mean blue and orange day sounds kinda cute but like… why not deal with actual issues in NYC first. Teachers already have enough to do.

  2. Wait I thought this was against the Spurs but the article says Knicks vs Spurs? Also it says Game 4 but then talks about the Knife edge like it’s a game show. My cousin said it’s gonna be rigged anyway so I’m confused.

  3. Blue and Orange Day is lowkey the most NYC thing ever. But didn’t they just lose Game 3? Like sure, wear the colors, maybe Wemby’s gonna suddenly forget how to play. Karl-Anthony Towns only 11 and Mikal two… so yeah I guess let’s all manifest a 3-1 lead by Wednesday??
