Mariners Hope to Bounce Back in Game 83 at Cleveland

Mariners vs. – Seattle heads to Cleveland for Mariners Game #83 on 6/26 with Luis Castillo on the mound, hoping to move past recent struggles against a Guardians club missing José Ramírez and dealing with concerns around Steven Kwan’s form.
When the Mariners take the field for Game #83, it won’t just be another road stop. They’re going to do it with a specific kind of urgency—trying to shake off some of their recent missteps—and with Cleveland offering a rare opening.
Seattle travels to “the Mistake on the Lake” on 6/26 to face the Guardians. The matchup comes with one major complication for Cleveland: José Ramírez is still on the IL as a participant in the Year of the Hamate. Cleveland will also be going in with a second-best player. Steven Kwan. who has been less than his usual self this season.
The man drawing the attention on Seattle’s side is Luis Castillo. In his last start. his results were tangled up with “an unfortunate combination of batted-ball luck and sequencing luck. ” but his recent stretch has been notably different. Since May 9, Castillo has posted a K%-BB% of 16.6% against a BAA of .210. Some of that improvement lines up with limiting his exposure to a third time through the lineup. but the gains have also held in his non-piggyback starts.
Cleveland counters with southpaw Joey Cantillo. For Mariners fans, that’s the kind of detail that changes the whole feel of a game almost immediately.
Seattle’s lineup decisions point the focus toward left-handed pitching, with Canzone getting a start against Cantillo and landing in the cleanup spot. The Mariners also appear to be sticking with Rob Refsnyder, who continues to see time, even as Canzone’s role expands against this specific opponent.
The preview comes with one admission of how quickly baseball can make information feel incomplete: the writer says there’s no real visibility into the Guardians lineup because it’s limited to Joey Cantillo’s pitchface.
First pitch is set for 4:10 PDT, with Mariners TV broadcasting the game and radio listed as “Old Reliable.”
For Seattle. the message is simple even without a promise of instant turnaround: they’ve got Castillo working through a better-than-recent run. they’re stepping into a Cleveland lineup missing José Ramírez. and they’ll see whether Cleveland’s current gaps—plus uncertainty around Steven Kwan’s season—are enough to help the Mariners lock in something steadier than their most recent “follies.”.

Castillo better lock it down or this turns into another “follies” game real quick.
I don’t even get why they keep mentioning that Year of the Hamate thing. Is that like an injury or just a nickname? Feels like Cleveland’s missing Ramírez but still gonna roast them anyway.
Joey Cantillo lefty, so they put Canzone cleanup… okay but if they’re “missing Ramírez” then why does everyone act like Cleveland still has their whole lineup? Also the article says no real visibility into lineup, which sounds like they’re guessing the whole lineup lol.
Steven Kwan being off is the bigger problem for Seattle, not even the hamate or whatever. If Cleveland’s lineup is shaky because of the IL stuff, Mariners should win at least 6-3 or something, right? Unless the Mariners bullpen ruins Castillo like they always do. Guess we’ll see.
