On a clear June day, Lil Nas X looked straight into the camera and told fans the moment he’d been working toward. In a video posted June 17, he said he has been in rehab for “a few months,” trying to get out of his head and back into his life.
He smiled broadly, wearing a fitted white T-shirt, as soft instrumental music played behind him. “I’m doing better and creating freely” was the headline message of the update. He added that he now has a therapist and a psychiatrist. and that those visits have been “really helpful.” He said he’s been spending time at home in Atlanta and Los Angeles as he continues recovery.
The mental health update lands on the heels of a legal case that began after his August 2025 arrest in Los Angeles, when he was taken into custody following an incident involving officers. The artist’s new message is aimed squarely at his future—while keeping the focus on treatment and stability.
In his video, Lil Nas X said he has “less fear” in his heart. He described the work of “trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head. ” and he told fans he’s been trying to build his recovery with professional support. He also made clear that he understands this stage of his life as both personal and public: “All I want to do is continue to make you proud and make myself proud.”.
The court and treatment timeline dates back to August 2025. when Lil Nas X—born Montero Hill—was arrested in Los Angeles after walking down the street in only his underwear and boots. in a disoriented state. The Los Angeles Police Department said he charged at officers. He was later charged with three felony counts of battery with injury to a police officer and one count of resisting arrest.
Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty. He was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In April, he was granted a mental health diversion in lieu of jail time, with charges to be dismissed if he continues treatment and obeys the law for two years.
