AirPods Pro and Beats Buds get fresh firmware updates

Apple has started rolling out new firmware to AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 (8B41) and Beats Studio Buds (1B211), continuing its quiet pattern of bug fixes and performance improvements without detailed release notes.

A small change is beginning to spread through Apple’s earbuds—but it’s the kind you only notice when you check.

Apple has released new firmware updates for AirPods and Beats audio devices. AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 are receiving firmware version 8B41, while Beats Studio Buds are being updated to version 1B211. The update follows previous firmware versions of 8B40 for AirPods Pro models and 1B204 for Beats Studio Buds.

Apple hasn’t disclosed what’s actually inside the update. Instead, the company typically keeps AirPods firmware release notes broad, describing bug fixes and performance improvements without breaking down specific changes.

Getting the update installed is mostly automatic. but Apple lays out the steps in case it doesn’t appear on its own. Users need to place their AirPods in the charging case. connect the case to power. and keep the earbuds within Bluetooth range of a paired iPhone. iPad. or Mac that’s connected to Wi‑Fi. Apple also instructs users to leave the case closed for at least 30 minutes while the firmware installs.

The firmware release lands as Apple continues building new AirPods features through software updates. At WWDC 2026, Apple previewed new AirPods capabilities that are set to arrive alongside its next generation of operating systems, including a new custom EQ feature.

For those who want confirmation, Apple provides a simple way to check. Open the Settings app on a paired iPhone or iPad. select your AirPods near the top of the screen. then scroll to the About section to view the installed firmware version. If version 8B41 appears on AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods Pro 3, the update has been installed successfully.

  1. So the firmware update is 8B41? Cool I guess. Hope it fixes the random crackling my left one does.

  2. Apple really can’t just say what changed huh. They always say “bug fixes” like that explains anything. My Beats better not start cutting out again.

  3. Wait 8B41 is for AirPods Pro 2 AND Pro 3? I thought Pro 3 is like the newer one that’s already perfect lol. I’ll check Settings but half the time it doesn’t show me the firmware right away.

  4. If you have to keep the case closed for 30 minutes that’s so weird. What if you open it by accident—does it brick them or something? Also WWDC 2026 custom EQ sounds like they’re finally admitting the audio is meh.
