Joy Behar steps away from “The View” for weeks

Joy Behar says she will leave “The View” for several weeks as she travels to Europe to stage her play “My First Ex-Husband,” with stops in Paris and London. Producers say she will remain on the panel through the end of the week, with guest cohosts rotating in
Joy Behar didn’t announce the move like a routine scheduling change. In a Tuesday, May 26 episode of ABC’s “Behind the Table” podcast, the “The View” co-host told executive producer Brian Teta she would be stepping away from the panel for several weeks.
Her explanation tied the time away to her stage work. Behar said she will travel to Europe to perform her stage play “My First Ex-Husband. ” with scheduled stops in Paris and London. She described moving from France to the United Kingdom. where the production will run at the Boulevard Theatre in London’s West End.
She also laid out what the trip will mean day-to-day. Behar said she performs alongside Jackie Hoffman and two British actors. and that the schedule will include performances as well as time for writing and cultural visits. The project, she said, will be a major focus during her hiatus from the talk show.
The timing comes after a health scare. Behar previously revealed she was deathly ill with pneumonia in March.
Behind the on-air gap, producers are already adjusting the set. Teta confirmed Behar will remain on “The View” through the end of the week before her absence begins. During that time, he said multiple guest cohosts will rotate in.
The temporary replacements Teta described include comedian Sheryl Underwood, who previously filled in amid earlier absences on the panel. Podcast host Kara Swisher is also scheduled to appear during the hiatus.
Ana Navarro—who regularly appears on specific days—has been expected to expand her on-air presence while Behar is away. In a scheduling shift, Whoopi Goldberg, who typically takes Fridays off, is also expected to appear on those episodes during the gap.
Behar’s planned break is only the latest interruption in a period when the show has leaned more on substitutions and rotating guests. The program has dealt with short-term absences tied to health issues and injury recovery. and it has continued to adapt in recent months as panelists’ schedules overlapped with personal time off.
The show’s approach has also included temporary substitutions for other extended absences among cast members. including fill-ins during maternity leave and other breaks. Behar—one of the long-running voices on the panel—has remained a central figure since returning to the program in 2015 following her original run. which began in 1997.
The parent company of ABC, The Walt Disney Company, did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment about Behar’s upcoming absence.

Wait so she’s leaving for weeks but still on til the end of the week? ABC schedules be wild.
Hope she’s okay after that pneumonia thing. Traveling to Europe while sick sounds kinda crazy tho, like don’t they have understudies already?
So is this like permanently quitting? Because the headline says “steps away” and then they say guest cohosts rotating in like that doesn’t count as stepping away. Also Europe stop Paris London for a play… ok but what about the show viewers?
My First Ex-Husband in London?? I swear I saw something like that on TikTok and everyone was like “oh she’s just doing promo” lol. But also they mentioned her getting deathly ill with pneumonia back in March so I guess it’s both?? I don’t even watch The View, I just saw Sheryl Underwood and Kara Swisher are filling in and thought Kara Swisher already does podcasts not TV panel stuff… anyway hope she rests.
